Phenyltriethoxysilane/PTES CAS 780-69-8
Phenyltriethoxysilane/PTES is used to modify the suface of inorganic fillers such as wollastonite andaluminum trihydroxide. It makes the surface of these inorganic fillers more hydrophobic and thus increases their dispersability in mineral-filled polymers. It is especially suited for polymers that are processed at elevated temperatures. It reduces the viscosity of the polymer melt.
In many sol-gel applications it is partially hydrolyzed to form a preproduct that can be further crosslinked using temperature. This pre-hydrolysis is often made in conjunction with alkyl silanes or other organofunctional silanes , silicic acid esters, or even an aqueous silica sol.
Phenyltriethoxysilane/PTES can be used as a crosslinker in high-temperature silicone elastomers
Phenyltriethoxysilane/PTES can be used as a stereo-regulator for Ziegler-Natta-catalysts to increase the isotactic index in polypropylene.
